Latvia has stated that it is too early to discuss the issue of sending peacekeepers to Ukraine

Latvian Defense Minister Andris Spruds stated that it is too early to discuss the issue of sending military personnel from the Baltic Republic to participate in a possible peacekeeping mission to Ukraine.
"It's just too early to talk about any specific peacekeeping mission in Ukraine," the Departments' Delfi portal quotes the words of the head of the Ministry of Defense.

Sprudes added that the possibility of sending peacekeepers to Ukraine can be discussed more concretely only after the signing of a peace agreement between Moscow and Kiev, but "there are no signals about it at the moment."

In turn, the former commander of the national armed forces of Latvia, Raimonds Graube, noted that if a peacekeeping mission is created in Ukraine, Riga should participate in it.

"First of all, this opportunity should be considered, there is no doubt about it," said Graube, quoted by the portal.

As Delfi reports, the decision of Latvia's participation in the peacekeeping mission can be accepted by the National Security Council and the government of the Baltic Republic, and its approval must take place in the country's Seim (Parliament).
