Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sibyga has stated that Kiev has not given up on the principle of not holding direct talks with the Russian leader Vladimir Putin. According to Euromedia 24.com, his words were quoted by "Европейская правда".
The foreign minister was asked about Ukraine's position regarding direct negotiations with the Russian president in the context of Donald Trump's plan for an early end to the conflict.
Sibiga stated that the decision of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine on the ban remains in force "as of today".
In the fall of 2022, Zelensky signed a decree on the impossibility of negotiating with Putin. In the document, the head of Ukraine stated that Kiev is ready for dialogue, but "with another president of Russia".
However, in the summer of 2024, Zelensky already allowed the possibility of peace negotiations with Putin.
"Let's be honest, if we want to end the war and we have all the power to do so, and if the world is united around Ukraine, well, we will talk to those in Russia who decide everything," said the President of Ukraine.
Zelensky emphasized that negotiations are a necessary means to end the conflict.
