Reuters. Six EU countries have called for a partial lifting of sanctions against Syria

European Union (EU) members Germany, Denmark, Spain, the Netherlands, Finland and France have called on the European Union leadership to lift sanctions against Syria in the banking, transport and energy sectors due to the change of power in the country.

As mentioned in the document obtained by Reuters, the EU "must immediately regulate the regime of sanctions against Damascus". It is proposed to ease restrictions on the export of civil air travel and technology of the oil and gas industry, as well as to unblock financial transactions between the European Union and Syria.

If Brussels' expectations of respect for human and minority rights are "not met", the EU will reinstate the previously lifted restrictions, the six European countries said in a statement, also citing former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and his family personal sanctions against will remain in force.

It is noted that removing the status of a terrorist organization from the "Hayat Tahrir al-Sham" group that seized power in Syria should be discussed at the UN level and "agreed with its closest partners".
