Avetik Chalabyan, the coordinator of the "HayaVote" socio-political union, has once again been targeted by the current authorities, as evidenced by the events that took place in his apartment early yesterday morning. Between 07:10 and 07:15, about seven or eight employees of the police and investigative bodies broke into the Chalabyans' apartment, when the family members and children were still asleep. The law enforcement officers first conducted a full search of the apartment, but did not find any prohibited or suspicious items, after which they seized the politician's phone. According to the family members, the representatives of the law enforcement agencies came with relevant documents prepared in advance, which proves that their clear goal was to arrest Chalabyan.
After that, the CC informed that a public criminal prosecution was initiated under Article 43-210, Part 2, Clauses 5 and 6 of the Criminal Code (preparation to obstruct the exercise of the electoral right by a group of persons by using official or official powers or the influence caused by them) and applied to the court with a petition for detention. In "Nicol's time" it was not difficult to predict that the petition would be granted. Avetik Chalabyan was detained for two months. These actions are described by his family and supporters as an obvious political persecution of the active representatives of the opposition field, who are continuously under pressure.
As lawyer Varazdat Harutyunyan reported, Avetik Chalabyan did not accept the charges against him, calling it a "total lie". It is noteworthy that Chalabyan is detained during the period when the Constitutional Court will examine the applications of the opposition forces related to the elections.
The authorities have made it a kind of "habit" to initiate criminal cases against Chalabyan. he is continuously detained, subjected to pressure, is constantly targeted by the government of the day, and this is not the first time when Chalabyan appears in detention centers on trumped-up charges for his opposition views and political activities.
