"Zhoghovurd" newspaper writes: "According to exclusive information from 'Zhoghovurd' newspaper, after possible rivals appeared within the ruling circles, Yerevan Mayor Tigran Avinyan has intensified discussions on ambitious development programs for the capital city. According to our governmental sources, the goal is also to win the trust of Yerevan residents and to consolidate his own position. 'Zhoghovurd' reported that Alen Simonyan aims to become mayor of Yerevan.
Information about aspiring to the same position is also circulating regarding Nairi Sargsyan, former assistant to the Prime Minister and brother of Hayk Sargsyan. Thus, the possible competition for Avinyan's chair is maturing within the government itself. According to 'Zhoghovurd' sources, Avinyan is preparing to announce that construction of the Ajapnyak metro station will start at the beginning of 2028. Until then, design work is again planned.
It should be noted that for about 8 years, the Civil Contract party has been talking about the Ajapnyak metro, but the issue has not progressed beyond the design stage. The mayor's team is also discussing large projects on building overpasses, repairing roads, and reducing traffic congestion. However, there are still no serious steps forward. Problems that Yerevan residents have faced unresolved for years are thus also appearing on the agenda of internal government competition. There are still two years until the elections, but Avinyan has already begun consolidating his own position.
The question is—will the residents of Yerevan see the results of these programs before the elections, or will these be just more promises to maintain the mayor's seat? Let's not forget Avinyan's role in the failure of the largest post-revolution project. The ANIF foundation squandered nearly 70 million dollars and was dissolved, with Avinyan himself as its head."
