"Zhoghovurd" newspaper has learned that on Thursday, the Standing Committee on Defense and Security Issues of the National Assembly plans to discuss the sensational Shaki incident, during which an armed Azerbaijani individual managed to break into an Armenian home, assault a woman, and the police were unable to prevent the incident in time. According to "Zhoghovurd" newspaper, the discussion may be held in a closed format, given the issues related to the National Security Service.
It is expected that during the closed session, the deputies will address questions to representatives of law enforcement agencies in order to clarify the details of the incident and receive answers regarding what happened. Recall that Gegham Manukyan, a deputy of the opposition faction of the National Assembly, had earlier proposed adopting a resolution regarding the Shaki incident. After lengthy discussions on the issue, Vilen Gabrielian, deputy of the "Civil Contract" faction and chairman of the committee, promised to organize a meeting with representatives of law enforcement agencies, including the National Security Service, the Investigative Committee, and the police.
The goal was to understand how it became possible for an armed Azerbaijani individual to enter an Armenian home, commit violence against a woman, and why the police failed to prevent what happened. Now, according to our information, the matter is being moved to the discussion field of the Standing Committee on Defense and Security Issues. However, it is notable that the discussion may take place behind closed doors. This means that while the deputies will have the opportunity to demand clarifications from law enforcement, the public may not be able to fully learn the content of these clarifications.
There are still many questions surrounding the Shaki incident. Thursday's discussion should reveal how willing law enforcement agencies are to take responsibility for what happened, and whether the deputies will succeed in obtaining answers to those questions that have so far remained unanswered."
