«Fact»: Both Are Talking About Crushing

The "Fact" newspaper writes: "It is not even a subject for discussion among reasonable circles that Azerbaijan is in reality or at heart not inclined towards peace with Armenia and the Armenian people; the aggressive attitude is so obvious. Just as it is obvious that in Azerbaijan, both after the 44-day war and after forcibly depopulating Armenian-populated Artsakh for millennia, state-level propaganda of hatred against Armenians and implementation of aggressive propaganda-political projects against Armenia continue.

Azerbaijani official representatives make repeated statements from time to time that not only contradict the mutually "confronted" proclaimed line of "establishing peace" but also clearly demonstrate a hostile attitude: one of the high-ranking Azerbaijani officials publicly demands that Armenians apologize to Azerbaijanis. Ilham Aliyev directly growls, talks about "crushing the enemy," distorts reality again, does not hide demands from Armenia and the Armenian people, and so on, and so forth.

At the same time, in a "parallel reality," Nikol Pashinyan, holding the post of Prime Minister of Armenia, and his associates talk about "nurturing peace." Well, this is not news, but worthy of attention in another parallel: see... Aliyev practically growls at Armenia and the Armenians, saying "we crushed the enemy." At the same time, Nikol Pashinyan used almost the same words, but... again against Armenians, in this case against opposition Armenians: In the context of the recent local elections, Pashinyan declares, "As a result of the local elections, the CPP or pro-CPP candidates and teams achieved a crushing victory." Let's say — impressive. Moreover, both the parallelism of the words of Aliyev and Pashinyan and the use of the word "crushing."

But that's not all yet: recently Pashinyan also declared that "the war's four-headed party must be uprooted from Armenia," that "the espionage opposition managed from abroad must be uprooted from Armenia," and that "a new, state-centered and real opposition should be formed."

We will not tire or hesitate to repeat: specifically Pashinyan and the CPP, being in power for 8 years and a little more, have brought to Armenia and Artsakh one large-scale war and at least three major and even fateful military clashes: so who is the "war party" if not the CPP itself?

About the opposition: Pashinyan, as always, makes naked, unsubstantiated statements without any evidence, accusing the opposition of espionage and being managed from abroad. Then let him name any of his detained opposition leaders who have been charged with such accusations: there is no such thing. It seems to have become normal that the head of state can make irresponsible and unfounded statements, but in reality that is a disgrace and at least a political irresponsibility.

Most importantly: who is Pashinyan to decide who will or will not be the opposition? If the authorities decide or will decide who is or isn’t opposition, then politically it means two things: first — that is already a tyrannical regime with no democracy; second — the "opposition" designated by the authorities is not opposition but an attachment of the same authorities. Although both points are interconnected.

In general, being opposition or government is decided by voters — by voting and by the distribution of votes as a result of voting. Simply put — not only the government but also the opposition forms through elections. Therefore, Pashinyan cannot decide who is opposition or not: we repeat — the people decide. And one day the people may decide that Pashinyan himself again becomes opposition, regardless of what kind of opposition. And for now, the only thing Pashinyan can do is pursue actions aimed at "crushing" the opposition, which he has been doing for years — but to no avail. Arresting everyone left and right and resorting to humiliating repressions has not strengthened anyone's position: if it has strengthened, then only for a very short time."
