Extreme heat in eastern Germany has led to the deformation of the road surface and the closure of some sections of highways in the federal state of Brandenburg, DW reported.
On the A13 motorway in Dresden, the police set a speed limit of up to 30 km/h, which caused serious traffic jams.
According to ADAC automobile association, part of the traffic lanes was closed due to swelling of the asphalt.
Road surface problems were also reported in the west, in the Lübeck region, where hot weather on the A1 motorway led to surface damage and temporary traffic restrictions.
Autobahn GmbH, the federal transport agency responsible for highway management, said the extremely high temperatures are putting a serious strain on infrastructure, including concrete and asphalt road surfaces.
