U.S. intelligence agencies have discovered that Alice Huang, a senior Chinese executive at a data center company operating in Singapore who had close ties with Nvidia’s CEO Jensen Huang, has been passing information to Beijing. This was reported by The New York Times, citing American officials familiar with intelligence data.
According to the publication, U.S. intelligence suspected that Alice Huang helped China circumvent restrictions on access to advanced artificial intelligence chips. Subsequently, U.S. officials concluded that she acted as a source for Chinese intelligence and relayed information to Beijing.
Intelligence data shows that Alice Huang established close relations with Nvidia’s leader Jensen Huang, which has raised concerns in the White House. The latter plays an important role in U.S. technology policy matters and maintains close relations with President Donald Trump.
According to NYT sources, about a year ago Trump was informed about the intelligence discoveries but decided not to take any action. The newspaper estimates that the U.S. president was worried about disrupting the sale of Nvidia chips and complicating trade relations with China.
The report is based on interviews with individuals familiar with intelligence surveillance results, officials, industry leaders, and analysts. Sources spoke on condition of anonymity because the information pertains to classified intelligence data.
