Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni addressed Donald Trump with a strong message in response to his latest statements. The head of the government emphasized Italy's sovereignty and urged Trump to deal with his own reputation, not his own.
Referring to Trump's accusations, Maloney described them as "constant and baseless attacks", noting that they are completely meaningless.
Speaking about his rating, the Italian Prime Minister emphasized that the friendship with Trump did not contribute to the increase of his popularity at all, and it does not depend on his relationship with him.
"My popularity depends on my ability to defend Italy's national interests, and that is exactly what I have always done," he declared.
As an example of protection of national interests, Meloni pointed out the issue of the American military bases located in the territory of Italy. He reminded that their exploitation is strictly regulated by agreements, which Rome has always respected. The Prime Minister assured that as long as he heads the government, these agreements cannot be violated.
"Italy remains a sovereign state. Anyway, my popularity is none of your business. I suggest you to focus on your own," concluded George Maloney.
