German Chancellor Friedrich Merz expressed doubts that the United States will be able to quickly end its military operation against Iran. "Because the Iranians are obviously stronger than they thought before, and the Americans obviously don't have a really convincing negotiation strategy," Mertz said during a discussion with schoolchildren in Marsberg, as quoted by the DPA news agency. "The problem of such conflicts is always the same. you don't just have to get into them, you have to get out of them as well.
We have seen this painfully in Afghanistan for 20 years. We have seen it in Iraq," the German chancellor said. He claimed that the Americans started their military operation against Iran "obviously without any strategy". For this reason, Mertz noted, it is more difficult to end the conflict now.
"Especially because the Iranians seem to be very skillful in negotiating, or equally skillful in avoiding them," the German Prime Minister emphasized. "The situation is quite complicated at the moment," the chancellor said. "And this costs us a lot of money. This conflict, this war against Iran, has a direct impact on our economic indicators," explained Mertz.
