Earlier, Axios reported that the US President's special envoy for peacekeeping missions, Steve Wittkoff, will meet with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in Istanbul on February 6. "Special envoy Witkoff is going to hold talks with the Iranians this week. As of now, they are still scheduled," Leavitt said in an interview with Fox News, commenting on the incident.

He also noted that US President Donald Trump "has a number of options on the table (regarding Iran), including the use of military force."

Earlier, Reuters reported that the United States armed forces shot down an Iranian drone in the direction of the USS Abraham Lincoln in the Arabian Sea. It was reported that the Shahed-139 drone was destroyed by an F-35 fighter jet.
