German Chancellor Friedrich Merz prefers to deepen his partnership with Italian Prime Minister Giorgio Meloni rather than with French President Emmanuel Macron, who will "leave office soon", reports The Telegraph.

"Berlin needs partners to work with. Can they work with Macron now? Not so much. He will leave office soon, and France is unstable. Germans hate instability," said one of the EU diplomats, emphasizing that "Italy and Germany are now closer than ever."
