The struggle against the Armenian Apostolic Church had a fatal impact on the people's attitude towards Pashinyan. As a result, it is more and more obvious for both internal supporters and external partners that it is no longer possible to hope that the current prime minister will retain power. No one believes that Pashinyan will be able to be re-elected.
This explains the drastic hardening of Aliyev's rhetoric. The president of Azerbaijan, who had "generously" promised to soften his tone before the elections, suddenly begins to rush Pashinyan to fulfill such agreements that cannot be accepted by the Armenian society. The publication of those agreements will make it very difficult for Pashinyan to rely on the voters' votes.
Aliyev is becoming more and more convinced that Pashinyan's reputation will not be saved, and the obedient Nikol will not retain the prime minister's seat. Therefore, he changes the strategy. not to postpone his demands until the elections, but on the contrary, to demand everything as soon as possible, while Pashinyan is in power and is ready to give up the Armenian "doughnut" piece by piece. And then someone may come who will not only not fulfill the "arrangements" but will also strike back.
On the 5th, Aliyev gave a speech in Baku entitled "Cultural heritage and the right of return. "Restoration of the cultural heritage of Azerbaijanis expelled from Armenia as a way of justice, reconciliation and peace" at the conference. As we can see, the very name of the conference is a clear manifesto of Baku's position. there will be peace only when three hundred thousand Azerbaijanis "return" to Armenia, and the native population of Armenia gives way and allows foreigners to "restore" some "cultural heritage of Azerbaijanis" on our native soil.
Aliyev's speech at that conference sounded more radical than its name. It was full of threats, ultimatums and accusations against the Armenian people. Aliyev again demanded the "return" of 300,000 Azerbaijanis to the territory of Armenia (let's remind, the Azerbaijani special services stationed in Armenia will closely monitor their "rights", so the rights of the Azerbaijani "settlers" will be more than the Armenians themselves).
In addition, Aliyev announced. "Armenia has historically destroyed the rich material and non-material cultural heritage of Azerbaijanis living in Western Azerbaijan in order to erase the traces of the Azerbaijani people from its territory." And now, according to Aliyev, the time for revenge has come.
The wording "restoration of cultural heritage of Azerbaijanis" is convenient in that under it Baku can include everything: place names, language, architectural monuments, even history texts of school and university textbooks. Be sure, just let them in, Azerbaijanis will start to introduce their "cultural heritage" to us so quickly that soon we won't recognize Armenia.
Aliyev concluded his speech with the following statement. "Steps are needed to assess the crimes against humanity committed by Armenians against Azerbaijanis." The lack of even an attempt to pretend friendship is striking here. Aliyev no longer considers it necessary to support Pashinyan's pre-election propaganda that "peace has already been established". He feels that he has placed a bet on a dying horse and intends to collect his winnings as soon as possible before the horse goes down.
Aliyev's observance of a peaceful holiday before the elections and his agreement not to raise sensitive topics for the time being is what Pashinyan vitally needs to build an election campaign. Either way, I found an approach to Aliyev, and to continue the dialogue, I have to stay in power. However, Aliyev openly denies this, showing that there is no dialogue, and they expect only unilateral concessions from Armenia.
What can Pashinyan do in such a situation? What options does it have? Call Trump, who does not remember the name of our country, and complain about "bad" Ilham? It is ridiculous. All that remains for Pashinyan is to continue to convince the Armenian people that he has brought peace to Armenia. Maybe there are still those who will believe.
