Scientists have indicated how sleep disorders have on the brain of the elderly

Scientists from Hong Kong University (HKU) have confirmed that bad sleeping people lead to a decline in the disruption of the brain waste disposal system. The results are published in Molecular Psychiatry (Molpsy) magazine.

Many studies have a bad sleep with a decrease in brain work. The team of Hong Kong's University has focused on the glial lymphatic (glimafic) system, a way to transport liquid, which plays an important role in removing waste from the brain. The efficiency of this system is a decisive factor to determine the health of the nervous system, especially at a great age.

Scientists have tried to understand the connection between the glory and nervous systems with people with bad sleep, which is the basis for memory disorder. The violation of the glial system leads to the accumulation of toxic proteins. This process is a risk factor for a number of neurological disorders such as Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease and epilepsy.

The research team assessed the health of 72 elderly brain and the quality of sleep using functional MR and Polysomnography. The results confirmed that the quality of bad sleep affects the normal work of the brain, turning off the restorative lymphatic system.

Scientists have reminded that the elderly people need to sleep for at least eight hours a day to keep health. It is important to lie down at the same time.
