Trump administration may impose sanctions against Odessa mayor

The administration of US President Donald Trump is considering imposing sanctions on Odessa Mayor Gennady Trukhanov,RIA Novostireports the Washington Mail, citing sources.

“The Trump administration is considering imposing sanctions on Odessa Mayor Gennady Trukhanov,” the report says.

According to anonymous sources, the US authorities are increasingly concerned that Trukhanov is involved in the activities of an Odessa criminal group and has large shares in four offshore companies registered in British tax havens.

Another important factor that could force the Trump administration to impose sanctions is that the mayor reportedly has Russian citizenship, the report notes.

Although no decisions have been made on this issue yet, it is on Washington’s agenda, the Washington Mail’s sources emphasize.

American sanctions against Trukhanov will have a significant impact on his political future, and may also negatively affect the city's cooperation with US partners, the article says.
