Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has announced that he has warned US President Donald Trump of his intention to strike Beirut.
He said that this will happen if the militias of "Hezbollah" continue to attack the territory of Israel. "I spoke to President Trump this evening and told him that if Hezbollah does not stop attacking our cities and citizens, Israel will attack terrorist targets in Beirut.
Our position remains unchanged," Netanyahu said, according to the Prime Minister's Office. He added that the operations of Israeli troops in southern Lebanon, where the initial announced plan was to create a buffer zone south of the Litani River, are continuing.
"At the same time, the Israel Defense Forces will continue to operate according to its plan in southern Lebanon," added the prime minister.
On June 1, the US president announced that he had reached an agreement with Netanyahu and the leadership of "Hezbollah" regarding a cease-fire in Lebanon.
After a telephone conversation with the Israeli Prime Minister, the American leader announced that Israeli troops "will not be sent to Beirut."
