In Bulgaria, the second round of the presidential elections is being held on Sunday, November 1, reports Dnes.bg.
The race for the head of state is between the current president Iliana Yotova and former interim prime minister Andrey Gyurov. In the first round held on October 25, none of the candidates received the required majority.
According to the final results of the first round, Yotova and her running mate for vice president Kiril Vilchev received 34.76% of the votes. Gyurov and his partner Georgi Kandev received 31.95% of the votes. The difference between the two pairs was about 2.8 percentage points.
Twenty-seven pairs of candidates participated in the first round. However, none surpassed the threshold required to win in the first round, so the top two pairs moved on to the final round of voting.
According to Bulgarian media, about 23% of voters cast their ballots in the first round. The low turnout has become one of the features of this presidential campaign.
The winner of the Sunday vote will be determined based on the results of the second round vote count.
