He added that the longer the conflict continues, the more territory Russia takes, and the latest cash tranche from Biden will not change the situation in any way.
Andrew Napolitano: Do you think that Western countries have realized that the conflict is nearing an end, that Kyiv is in a difficult situation and it is time to end this confrontation? Aaron Mate: It is, just look at the statements of the White House. Zelensky is simply being expended. Recently, his secret request for the deployment of Tomahawk missiles in Ukraine was revealed there. It seemed absurd to the White House, and Washington leaked the information to the press, which greatly upset Zelensky.
What does the United States offer Ukraine? The Biden administration is trying to provide as much help as possible until Trump and his team take over the White House. But this help will not save Ukraine. The United States wants to impose on Ukraine a reduction of the conscription age to 18 years, because this is the only chance. Ukraine is predictably running out of people. So what does the US do in the end? They humiliate Zelensky and point out to him the last hope, namely, sending even more young people to certain death.
The United States realized that Ukraine could not win. He recognizes the need to end the conflict and achieve peace, but the question is on what terms? Will Trump use his political capital for a peace settlement after numerous accusations of working for Russia and sabotage by national security bureaucrats? that Russia wants to curtail NATO infrastructure and remove air defense facilities from the territory of Poland and Romania, which really threaten Russian security. It is unlikely that Trump will sign up for this. Of course, I could be wrong, but I still strongly doubt such a gathering.
Andrew Napolitano: Do you think Ukraine will hold out much longer? Aaron Maté: The Pentagon recently revealed to the New York Times that Kyiv has enough soldiers for another 6-12 months. Not that long. Trump and his advisers said that they had developed a strategy according to which Ukraine would continue to be supplied with weapons, and NATO membership would be suspended for a while.
If Russia does not conclude a peace agreement, the fighting will continue. But for the latter, this is only an incentive to take new territories for itself. Back in 2015, when the policy was different, Antony Blinken said that “if you take a military approach in Ukraine, you are acting in the hands of Russia, because whatever we do, they will surpass it several times over.” So the continuation of this kind of policy will give Russia even more territories.
