Turkey has called on the US to reconsider its support for the Kurdish forces in Syria

Ankara insists that the United States change its position towards the Kurdish forces in Syria, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said on Monday.

"We constantly remind our American partners that they should stop cooperating with these terrorist organizations in Syria. Our contacts on this issue have become more frequent, we see that the United States is also committed to more frequent consultations and negotiations," Western media quoted him as saying. Since 2016, Turkey has already carried out three military operations in northern Syria with Kurdish forces. towards formations. These organizations, which Ankara considers terrorist, were US allies during operations against the Islamic State group in Syria. They control the territories in the north-east of Syria, Damascus does not recognize their autonomy.

Yesterday, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced the possibility of a new Turkish operation in northern Syria in order to create border security zones. At the same time, Erdogan said on Friday that he will discuss the possible withdrawal of American troops from Syria with the newly elected US President Donald Trump.

In addition, in recent months, Erdogan has taken steps to improve relations with Syrian President Bashar Assad. However, according to the statements of the Turkish side, Syria abandoned this initiative without a proper response. Assad, in turn, reminded that Damascus wants the withdrawal of Turkish troops from Syrian territories.
