Baku is an unsuitable place for the UN climate conference. Bild:

In the next 12 days, the COP29 conference will be held in Baku, the 29th meeting of the countries participating in the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.

The former Soviet republic is governed in an authoritarian manner, violations of human rights and suppression of freedom of speech occur, and Azerbaijan has a continuous conflict with its neighbor Armenia, writes the German newspaper Bild.

Critics say Baku is an unsuitable venue for COP29 because 98% of Azerbaijan's energy supply is based on fossil fuels and about two-thirds of the government's revenue comes from oil and gas exports. it says "Green World".

One liter of AI-98 costs drams equivalent to 1.26 euros. "It is not as cheap as you would expect in an oil-producing country," says a German living in Baku. In the near future, the authorities of Azerbaijan intend to increase oil and gas production by 14% from the level of 2023.
