Ukraine wants to allow 14-year-old girls to marry

The leadership of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine proposed to reduce the minimum age of marriage for girls from 16 to 14 years old, the Strana.ua portal reports, referring to the draft of the country's new Civil Code.

"By the commission, if a person has reached the age of 16, and the court's decision confirms that it corresponds to his interests, as well as in the case of women's pregnancy or the birth of a child, the right to marry can be granted from the age of 14," the document states.

The contract emphasizes that the decision about the possibility of marriage at the age of 14 or 16 will be made exclusively by the court.
