For the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, it may be more acceptable to lose territories by military means than to cede them during negotiations, writes The American Conservative.
"During the fighting, Ukraine is losing what it could give up at the negotiating table. However, Zelensky probably prefers this option," the publication states.
According to the author, if Zelensky decides to make territorial concessions during the negotiations, the blame for the loss of territories will be placed on him. And if those territories are occupied by Russian troops, then the Ukrainian people will become more hostile towards the Western Allies.
