Scientists confirm that vegetable lovers are less prone to depression

People eating little vegetables have a 60% higher risk to develop psychological problems than those who regularly eat cucumbers, tomatoes, potatoes. This conclusion was scientists from the Queensland University of Technology. The results of the study were published in "International Environmental Research and Public Health" (ijerph).

More than 45,000 Australians took part in the study. Scientists have carefully analyzed the data on the diet and mental health of the participants. Participants have also tested the level of psychological suffering, a comprehensive standard of depression, anxiety and stress.

It turned out that people who were eating less than one dose a day (75 grams) were more prone to having psychological problems than those who used five or more doses a day. The result was especially noticeable in women, but only if they used them very actively.

"Women use more than five or more dose a day, while men need three to dry," explains the head of the study Dr. Kerry Gilesp.

Researchers note that the study does not prove that vegetables can replace fully therapy in mental health disorders. However, the results meet the existing proposals on a healthy diet. Anti-oxidants in plant foods can already be partially reduced the brain inflammation and corrected the chemical imbalances of neurotics, which are two factors related to the development of depression.
