An unexpected risk of violation of the regime has been named on weekends

A group of international researchers at Flinders University of Australia has found a new phenomenon in the medicine of sleep, "Social Apnea." It turns out that many people are deteriorating symptoms of Obstructive Sleepy (OSA) on weekends, which is due to change of regime, alcohol use and other habits. The work has been published in the American Respiratory and Intensive Medical Medicine (AJRccm).

A sleeping disorder is a disturbance of sleep, in which case the respiratory truck is partially or entirely clogged, causing short breathing breaks. Such episodes can be repeated at night or even hundreds of times, reducing the quality of sleep and the risk of cardiovascular disease, depression and premature death.

"The sleep apnea is already a serious public health problem, but our results suggest that its real prevalence can be underestimated," said Dr. Lusia Pinilyan, the General Author of FHMRI SLEEP Health. According to him, most of the diagnostic tests are performed on working days, which does not reflect the effect of the "weekend".

The data analysis of more than 70,000 people from different countries has shown that the risk of early sleep apnoe on Saturday was 18% higher than on Wednesday. In men, this figure increased by 21%, with 9% women. At the age of 60, the risk increased by 24%, compared to 7% of the elderly. For the weekend, an additional 45 minutes of sleep has increased the likelihood of cases of heavy appliances.

"We still don't know the exact reason, but the use of alcohol, more superficial sleep and the irregular use of Apno therapies can play a role," said FHMRI SLEEP Health Director, Professor Dennny Ekert. He added that such fluctuations can be considered by the season. In the summer and winter OSA is 8-19% more severe than in the spring and autumn.

According to experts, "Social Apnoin" increases the risk of cardiovascular disease, demonstration, chronic fatigue and traffic accidents. Ekert advises to maintain a stable sleep schedule, lay in the week and wake up at the same time, sleep 7-9 hours and use the designated therapy even on weekends.
