The doctor mentioned a worrying reason for the lack of appetite in the morning

Losing interest in morning food can be linked to hormonal imbalances, specifically high levels of cortisol, the main stress hormone. Nutritionist Natalie Burroughs (University of Worcester, USA) told Daily Mail about this.

The specialist explained that during sleep, the body uses the glucose reserves stored in the liver. When these stores are depleted, the adrenal glands begin to release cortisol to maintain blood sugar levels. This hormone helps you wake up, but too much of it can suppress your appetite.

"If you wake up with no desire to eat, it could be a sign of high cortisol levels," the nutritionist noted.

Moreover, in the morning the body still feels the effects of melatonin, the sleep hormone, which slows down digestion. Research shows that it sometimes takes one to two hours for this hormone to drop and hunger to begin. The specialist added that another common reason for skipping breakfast can be a circadian rhythm disorder. This is the name given to the internal biological clock that regulates hunger, sleep and wakefulness.

To restore the normal circadian rhythm, the doctor advised to go out within 30 minutes of waking up or leave daylight in the room. It is also important to maintain a sleep schedule and avoid replacing breakfast with a cup of coffee, as caffeine increases the production of adrenaline and creates the illusion of a surge of energy while overtaxing the adrenal glands.

Burrows emphasized that morning fatigue and the desire to lose weight are also not reasons to skip breakfast. According to the expert, skipping the first meal of the day can cause blood sugar fluctuations and, contrary to expectations, make weight management difficult.
