The world's first antidote in the world has been created against carbon monoxide poisoning

Scientists from the Medical School of Maryland University have created a new protein medicine that can be effective and secure antidoxial poisoning with carbon monoxide. The work was published in the "National Academy of Sciences" magazine (PNAs).

Gas is exhausted during fuel combustion and is dangerous in closed areas, such as gas equipment has a faulty ventilation when gasoline generators work or when cars are in the garage. Currently, oxygen therapy is used for treatment, but even after that, almost half of survivors suffers long damage to the heart and brain.

The new drug, called Rcom-HBD-CCC, operates as "Sponge", quickly removes carbon monoxide from blood. It is based on a natural molecule of a Rcom, which is used by Paraburkholderia Xenovorans to detect minimum carbon monoxide concentrations. Scientists have changed it so that it will contact a special carbon monoxide without disturbing other values of oxygen and other body molecules.

During the experiments made on mice, the Rcom-HBD-CCC quickly removed the carbon monoxide from red blood cells and excreted into the urine. At the same time, it practically had no effect on blood pressure, which distinguishes from other protein anti-inflammation that can abruptly increase it.

"This can be a quick intravenous drug that can be used directly at the emergency department or even at the scene," said one of the authors of the study, Mark Gladwin.

The mechanism of action is related to the fact that carbon monoxide is connected with hemoglobin hundreds of times stronger than oxygen, displacing tissues from living gas available. The new drug catches the molecules of carbon monoxide, riding hemoglobin and allowing him to wear oxygen again.

The authors believe that in the future the Rcom-HBD-CCC can only be used against the poisoning of carbon monoxide, but also as a component for the treatment of blood loss or the transplantation of organs. However, further research is needed to determine the optimal dose and security for people.
