AI creates a new obstacle for women in the work

The use of artificial intelligence (AI) can open new opportunities in the work, but recent studies show that it also deepens gender bias. Researchers from Hong Kong Polytechnic and Beijing Universities have found that women who use the instruments of the Ministry of Emergency Situations are often evaluated as men who have done the same work.

The study was conducted in the International Technological Company, where employees were encouraged to apply generative Emergency Situations. However, it turned out that only 31% female engineer uses them compared to 41% of men. The analysis of comments has shown that even in the case of the same code, if it was supposed to be written with the help of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, women were more severe. In case of women, the "penalty of competence" reached 13%, while in men, about 6%.

This phenomenon is not limited to the application of the Ministry of Emergency Situations. Previous research has shown that in case of the same results, women are often granted lower than the standards of "potential" or "potential". Even with high indicators, women are often less likely to get advanced or encouraging. Experts say that this situation can restrain women's willingness to use innovative tools, and offers solutions only to use the work results, if possible, to use unnamed (Blind) evaluation methods and set clear criteria that will exclude the impact of subjective opinions.
