The dragon stones of Armenia are a world heritage. A report has been submitted


Armenia participated in the 9th International Online Congress "World Heritage of the CIS Countries", which was organized by the D. of the Russian Federation. S. by the Russian Research Institute of Cultural and Natural Heritage named after Likhachev.

Representatives of the Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Armenia and the Institute of Archeology and Ethnography of the National Academy of Sciences of Armenia participated in the congress from Armenia.

Scientist Mariam Shahmuradyan presented a report on "Dragon stones of Armenia and their path to world heritage". The participants of the conference showed interest in the topic due to the fact that dragon stones are a unique and unrepeatable monument of cultural heritage.

In their reports, experts from Russia, Belarus, Tajikistan and other CIS countries presented the experience of including monuments in the territory of their countries in the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Let's remind that by the order of the Ministry of KGSMS, the Institute of Archeology and Ethnography of the National Academy of Sciences in 2023. developed the application "Dragon Stones and Cultural Landscape of Tirinkatar Ancient Site" submitted by the Ministry of Cultural Heritage to UNESCO World Heritage.
Accordingly, in 2024 It was included in the preliminary list of world heritage at the 46th session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee held in New Delhi in July.

In order to be included in the main list of UNESCO's world heritage in 2024. Through the mediation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia, the Ministry of Cultural Heritage submitted the preliminary assessment application "Dragon Stones and Cultural Landscape of Tirinkatar Ancient Site" to the UNESCO World Heritage Center in the current year and received the opinion of the International Council for the Preservation of Monuments and Landmarks (ICOMOS).

Work in that direction continues.
