The President of Moldova nominated a candidate for the post of Prime Minister

The President of Moldova, Maia Sandu, signed a decree nominating Vasile Tofani as a candidate for Prime Minister. The appointment took place after consultations with the parliamentary factions, the press service of the president announced.

According to the constitution, "the appointed candidate must apply to the parliament within 15 days after the appointment, with a request to receive a vote of confidence in the activity program and the full composition of the government," the statement says.

Sandu is confident that Tofan will solve the three most important problems facing Moldova: fulfilling all the conditions for Moldova's integration into the European Union in the coming years, strengthening the stability of state institutions and society, and restoring and restarting the economy.

Tofan himself said that he considers his nomination "not a great achievement, but a great responsibility". He singled out three main priorities for the future government: restoring public trust in the government, improving the economy and creating an effective team.

Tofan is a 44-year-old businessman, an investor in the Horizon Capital fund, which manages approximately $1.6 billion (€1.4 billion) in assets and specializes in investments in Ukraine and Moldova. In 2025, Tofan founded the "Europe 2028" public movement, which united 28 famous entrepreneurs of the country.
