The Japanese government is afraid of the further escalation of the situation around Iran in the light of the clashes between Washington and Tehran, as well as the statements of US President Donald Trump on this issue, Kyodo news agency reports.
"We fear further escalation of the situation amid the exchange of hostile actions between the US and Iran," the agency quoted an unnamed government official as saying. At the same time, another high-ranking source in the Japanese Foreign Ministry, in an interview with the Kyodo news agency, admitted that it is currently "difficult to assess the situation based on Trump's words alone" and expressed hope that the US and Iran will continue the dialogue anyway.
It is said that Japan is currently actively gathering information and expects to intensify its own diplomatic efforts to stabilize the situation in the Middle East.
