The main goal of the meeting will be not only the organization of the work of the faction, but also the development of the strategy of the upcoming parliamentary activities, the discussion of the distribution of positions and political priorities.
According to our information, the issue of the leader of the faction has already been actually resolved. Narek Karapetyan, who heads the list, will be elected to that position. And the issue of the secretary is still open. As for the position of opposition vice president of the National Assembly, as a result of discussions, the team is more inclined to nominate Aram Vardevanyan for that position. Although Edgar Ghazaryan's name was actively discussed among the candidates before, the number of his supporters within the faction has significantly decreased. However, the distribution of positions is not the only headache for "Strong Armenia".
The faction already understands that their first serious clash in the parliament will be during the formation of the governing bodies of the National Assembly. There is a fear in the opposition circles that the government may repeat the working style of the National Assembly of the previous convocation and again deprive the opposition of the levers that are considered important tools of parliamentary control.
As a result of a recent legislative change, if a candidate nominated for a position is not elected twice, then that issue is considered exhausted and can no longer hinder the process of forming the parliament. If the government follows the same path as in the previous parliament, both opposition factions may again be left without committee chairpersons and without an influential representation in the position of the vice president of the National Assembly.
"Strong Armenia" is convinced that the start of the parliament will not be easy. The hottest developments in the team are not excluded, up to physical clashes. There are precedents for such predictions. in the first days of the formation of the National Assembly of the previous convocation, the sessions had repeatedly turned into mutual insults, quarrels and even fights.
At the same time, the government twice rejected the election of the opposition candidate Ishkhan Saghatelyan to the position of vice-president of the National Assembly, and only after the third attempt was he elected to that position. The issue of Davit Ghazinyan, who is under arrest, is also a topic of separate discussion. According to "Zhoghovurd" daily newspaper, there is a strong desire within "Strong Armenia" for Ghazinyan to be released from detention as soon as possible and to join the faction's activities, although it was previously said that he does not want to go to the parliament. If the government refuses to provide the opposition with the positions provided by the D'Hondt resolution for parliamentary control during the election of the leadership positions of the National Assembly, then the tension in the parliament will deepen."
