Authorities were forced to cancel or postpone dozens of parades, concerts and fireworks due to the raging heat in the central and eastern regions of the US.
On July 3, the Great American State Fair on National Avenue was temporarily closed in Washington, D.C., when the air temperature reached +38 degrees.
The parade scheduled for July 4 was also canceled. The National Weather Service predicted that the air temperature would reach +46 degrees.
Extreme heat and massive use of air conditioners have put a strain on the US power system.
