A group of Democrats demanded that Biden clarify the role of the United States in the conflict in the Middle East

A group of Democrats in the House of Representatives of the Congress demanded from US President Joe Biden to report on the role of the United States Armed Forces in the Middle East conflict.

"In light of the recent escalation in the region, including the exchange of strikes between Israel and Iran, as well as the Israeli ground invasion of Lebanon and Gaza, we are deeply concerned about the increasing role and involvement of the US Air Force in the conflict in the Middle East," the letter to Biden said.

It was signed by Democratic representatives of the lower house of Congress, Rashida Tlaib, Corey Bush, Summer Lee, Ilhan Omar and Andre Carson.

The lawmakers noted that "the participation of American forces in these wars has not been authorized by the US Congress as required by the US Constitution and law."

"The Americans have made it clear that they want an immediate ceasefire, an end to the conflict, and the return of hostages, rather than increased American involvement in an endless regional war," they added.

The authors of the letter noted that the escalation of the Middle East conflict "was caused by the transfer of billions of dollars in weapons and military aid, intelligence and operational coordination, and US diplomatic cover to the Israeli authorities."
