Turkey accuses the EU of making baseless assessments

The Turkish Foreign Ministry referred to the report published by the European Union about Turkey, reports ermenihaber.am.

"We deny the EU's groundless assessments in the 2024 report on Turkey, especially regarding political standards and internal political developments," the statement reads.

The Turkish side also accused the EU of raising political issues in bilateral relations and emphasized that it does not expect the EU to remove these political obstacles. On October 30, the European Commission published an "Enlargement Report" on 10 countries, among which also Turkey.

The report emphasized that no progress was made in Turkey's EU accession negotiations beyond 2018. It was also noted that concerns about Turkey's backsliding in the context of EU democratic standards, the rule of law and the independence of the judiciary and other fundamental rights, are still preserved.
