According to a new study, adolescents who use cannabis are more likely to develop psychotic disorders.
A study conducted by scientists at the University of Toronto found that adolescents who use cannabis are 11 times more likely to develop psychotic disorders than those who do not. When hospitalization outcomes were also taken into account, that number was 27 times higher. The new study, published in the journal Psychological Medicine, included data from more than 11,000 adolescents and young adults aged 12-24 at the time the study began. The authors used Annual Canadian Public Health Examination Data 2009-2012. during. Then the participants were followed for nine years in order to find out all their visits to doctors and emergency departments, as well as the cases when they appeared in hospitals. 5 out of 6 hospitalized teenagers reported using cannabis.
