Vandalism at the state level. Zatulin on demolishing Aivazovsky statue in Artsakh

Demolition of the statue of world-famous sea painter Hovhannes Aivazovsky is an example of state vandalism by the Azerbaijani authorities. Konstantin Zatulin, Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on the CIS, wrote about this on this.

According to Zatulin, it is a barbaric act, obvious foolishness. He reminded that Aivazovsky is a world-class genius, who was evaluated both in the Russian Empire and beyond its borders.

"Those who are actively fighting against the Armenian cultural presence of Artsakh today are not limited to the demolition of Aivazovsky statue. The monuments of the famous Soviet military commanders of Chardakhlu village have already been desecrated, and dozens of khachkars have been dismantled, "said the deputy.

He also noted that at the official level, the theory of the monasteries of Artsakh's historical and cultural monuments, including the 6th-12th centuries, is advanced.

"It is a barbarity that they are trying to find justice, citing political conflicts with Armenia or Russia. The country's leadership or eyes shut on what is happening or directly encourages it, "Zatulin added.

Earlier, Artsakh Tourism and Culture Development Agency reported that Aivazovsky's monument was demolished in 2021.
