German Chancellor Friedrich Merz was received with whistles during his speech at the Federal Congress of the German Trade Union Confederation (DGB) in Berlin, Bild newspaper reports.
The audience repeatedly booed Mertz loudly and tried to interrupt his speech with taunts from the audience. This continued for about 15 minutes. When the German chancellor spoke about the implementation of reforms in the country and called their plans "a possibility", he was again subjected to a barrage of insults and whistles.
For his part, Mertz kept calm and continued his speech. Among other things, he spoke about the need to reform the welfare state. The German Prime Minister repeated the previous promise of his predecessor, former German Chancellor Olaf Scholz. Four years ago, Scholz promised that the so-called turning point would not affect social policy or wage earners.
