RIA Novosti: Armenia's exit from the EAEU will most affect the export of three types of products

Armenia's withdrawal from the EAEU will most affect the country's exports of alcohol, flowers and fish, as local producers will be deprived of preferential access to their largest market, Russia, reported RIA Novosti.

The Armenian parliament adopted the law on the start of Armenia's accession to the European Union in March 2025, and in April of the same year it was approved by the president of the republic, Vahagn Khachaturyan. Russian President Vladimir Putin, during a meeting with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, stated that it is impossible to be in both the EU and the EAEU customs union at the same time.

According to local statistics, according to the results of the first quarter of 2026 (more recent data have not yet been published), Armenia exported the most strong alcohol to Russia, amounting to $66.9 million. Russia's share in the total export of this product category is almost 86 percent.

In the first quarter of the current year, plants, mainly flowers, followed in terms of export volumes. Armenia supplied them to Russia in the amount of $12.2 million, which is 88 percent of their total export. Fish supplies reached $17.6 million (98 percent), coffee - $11.6 million (89 percent), and ferrous metals, mainly ferroalloys and flat - $8.8 million (31 percent).

In addition, the top 10 exports from Armenia to Russia included orthopedic products - $27.1 million (99.9 percent), shoes - $14.7 million (96 percent), chocolate and products made from it - $5.9 million (70 percent), as well as mineral and carbonated water with additives - $5.6 million (89 percent).

Rosselkhoznadzor announced that it will restrict the import of all quarantined products from Armenia, as well as their transit from Russia to the EAEU member states, starting June 12. As explained by Sergey Dankvert, head of Rosselkhoznadzor, the restrictions on the supply of Armenian agricultural products are related to the lack of effective quality control among producers, not to politics.
