The adoption of bills on migration policy will contribute to the fight against the organization of illegal migration and the strengthening of punishments for crimes in this area. Vyacheslav Volodin, the chairman of the lower house of the parliament, announced this on his Telegram channel.

On October 16, the State Duma will begin to discuss the two bills of the package of initiatives aimed at improving the migration policy in the first reading, which refer to changes in the criminal and criminal procedure codes of the Russian Federation, Volodin said.

They assume that if a crime is committed, staying illegally in the Russian Federation will become an aggravating circumstance. This year, the number of such crimes has tripled, reaching 8 thousand, he noted, referring to the data of the Investigative Committee.

In addition, it is proposed to classify the organization of illegal migration as a particularly serious crime, which was carried out by an organized group or for the purpose of committing serious/particularly serious crimes.
