Currently, the post of National Security Advisor is held by Jake Sullivan. This is one of the key positions that is appointed by the president and does not require Senate confirmation. Waltz, 50, is a retired special forces officer who served in Afghanistan, the Middle East and Africa, the Financial Times reported.
Journalists note that he is a staunch ally of Trump and an open critic of the current president, Joe Biden. Waltz has held various positions in the White House and the Pentagon, and was elected to Congress in 2018.
The position of Secretary of State is currently held by Anthony Blinken. Trump's candidate, 53-year-old Rubio, has been a senator since 2011.
