"Fact" daily writes:
The process of finally absorbing the justice system in Armenia and turning it into a political club has reached its peak.
Another clear and shameful proof of this was the court session held on July 9, during which the term of house arrest of Samvel Karapetyan, leader of the "Strong Armenia" alliance, well-known businessman and philanthropist, was extended for another two months.
This decision is nothing but another manifestation of political revenge and the government's fever to isolate its own opponents. The most shocking thing in this story is that Samvel Karapetyan did not deviate even a millimeter from the letter of the law in the case of these ugly illegalities, fabricated accusations and open political persecutions applied to him.
He stands as an exceptional law-abiding citizen and pro-state figure who respects state institutions even when they are usurped by the current regime. However, in response to his emphatic respect for the law, he receives only fabricated and exaggerated accusations, from loud but empty slogans of overthrowing the constitutional order to absurd articles of money laundering.
The detention that started in June 2025, which was later replaced by house arrest, is now mechanically extended for the fourth time, accompanied by absurd restrictions and bans on contacts, the purpose of which is to cut off the political leader from active activities.
However, the case of Samvel Karapetyan is not unique, it fits into the logic of widespread legal terror in the country, which is carried out against all major opponents of the government.
The latest events surrounding PAP leader Gagik Tsarukyan, his arrest and the total legal terror that is used against the big businessman and the head of the political force, with the aim of breaking any resistance, are a vivid proof of this.
We see the same handwriting in the recent political persecution of the second president, Robert Kocharyan.
The authorities have come to the point where they are depriving people even of the basic right to leave the territory of the country for personal, household or health purposes with undisguised legal arbitrariness and direct mechanical decisions.
Restricting the free movement of people has become a common tool to keep the political field in an atmosphere of fear. The most tragic thing in this whole process is the complete degradation of the judicial system of Armenia. The so-called "judges of the heart" of the government stopped administering justice a long time ago.
They have turned into ordinary notary offices, which without any serious discussion, without reasoning and arguments, simply punch and seal their "ordered" decisions.
The prosecution demands three months, the court gives two months, trying to create an illusion of independence, but this is just a cheap show, where the script is written in completely different cabinets.
These total pressures applied to Samvel Karapetyan show the internal fears and weakness of the current regime. They are afraid of leaders with real weight, authority and patriotic motives. When legal arbitrariness reigns in the country, and the courts serve not the law, but the ruler of the day, then no citizen is protected.
The cases of Samvel Karapetyan, Gagik Tsarukyan, Robert Kocharyan are a clear impulse for the whole society. whoever does not remain silent and who has the potential to build a strong Armenia will be targeted by the government's repressive machine, but history has shown that no government based on illegality has a long life.
