"Today, on July 3, the general meeting of judges will take place, the agenda of which is the election of 3 members of the committee on ethics and disciplinary issues of judges. Before the changes in the law, the commission consisted of 6 judges and 2 non-judges, but at the request of the political society, the number of non-judges was increased by three, in the ratio of five to six. 7 candidates were nominated for 3 vacant seats: judge Armine Tumasyan, employee of the Court of Cassation Melik Melikyan, Artur Sakunts, Hasmik Harutyunyan, representative of "Protection of Rights Without Borders" NGO, Anush Mkrtchyan, representative of "Transparency International Anti-Corruption Committee", lawyer Lusine Hakobyan from "Rights Europe" NGO, and a certain Artak Mkrtchyan.
A few days before today's election, it turns out that Hanrayin called Lusine Hakobyan and conducted an interview, in which the candidate did not avoid the topic of the committee on ethics and disciplinary issues of judges. According to our information, this circumstance has caused indignation not only among his competitors, who believe that thus unequal competitive conditions have been created for them, but also among the independent judges who elect the members of the commission.
We were told that this fact is, in fact, a message to the judges about who Pashinyan sees in one of the vacant seats of that commission. It is obvious that attempts are being made to control the judicial system, to push their own people everywhere.
