On the eve of the Independence Day of Belarus, the President of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, pardoned 32 people, 28 of whom were convicted of extremist crimes, the press service of the President of Belarus reports.
"Ahead of Belarus' Independence Day (celebrated on July 3), amnesty was granted to 32 people, 28 of whom were convicted of extremist crimes," the statement said.
It was noted that Alexander Lukashenko signed the relevant decree.
"The head of state pardoned 20 women and 12 men.
The decision was made based on the principle of humanity towards the convicts and their families," the press service said in a statement. It emphasizes that "they all submitted a petition for pardon, admitting their guilt and showing remorse."
