Bezos congratulates Trump on 'remarkable return to politics'

Amazon founder and owner of the American newspaper The Washington Post, billionaire Jeff Bezos, congratulated Republican Donald Trump on his victory in the US presidential election. He published the corresponding post on the social network X. “I heartily congratulate our 45th and now 47th President on his outstanding return to the political arena and decisive victory,” Bezos wrote. He wished the politician “success in leading” the country, emphasizing, that no other state has the same capabilities as the United States.

The results of the US presidential election were summed up on November 6, the Republican beat his opponent, Democrat Kamala Harris. After this, Trump was congratulated by a number of world leaders, including Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko and others. Previously, The Washington Post refused to support any of the candidates for the US presidency, thus violating almost 50 summer tradition. So, the newspaper staff prepared an article in support of Harris, but Bezos refused to publish it. He explained this by saying that the publication wanted to avoid “a feeling of lack of independence.” Bezos stressed that the newspaper's support for a particular politician would not have affected the outcome of the election. In previous election campaigns, The Washington Post was a consistent supporter of Democrats and sharply criticized Republicans. Including Trump during his previous presidency.
