Kyodo: Security measures have been strengthened before the elections in Japan

Japan's law enforcement agencies have taken enhanced security measures on the eve of early lower house elections scheduled for February 8, considering the assassination of former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe in July 2022 during an election speech, Kyodo news agency reported.

On January 27, on the first day of the election campaign, Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi, who heads the country's ruling Liberal Democratic Party of Japan (LDP), held a joint campaign meeting with national chairman Hirofumi Yoshimura of the coalition's Japan Renewal Party at the entrance to Tokyo's Akihabara district. There were long queues at the entrance as the police checked personal bags.

The police are also monitoring the users of social networks, where threats against politicians have increased since the start of the election campaign. Law enforcement identifies potentially dangerous users and in some cases issues an official warning.

In the future, according to Kyodo, it is planned to use artificial intelligence to analyze social networks.
