Danish authorities plan to deploy a floating barracks in Greenland based on the former Soviet ferry Konstantin Simonov, which was converted into a research vessel in 2014 and currently operates under the name MS Ocean Endeavour. This was reported by the German Bild newspaper, referring to the Danish Armed Forces.
"Some soldiers from Denmark and other countries, who will take part in the Arctic Endurance exercises to be held in Greenland next year, will be accommodated in the Ocean Endeavor hotel-ship from the beginning of February. The ship will be anchored in the port of Nuuk," the newspaper quoted the Danish Armed Forces as saying.
It is noted that the use of the floating barracks will also allow to avoid additional burden on the hotels of Nuuk city.
Bild emphasizes that the ferry was built and launched in 1982 by the Soviet Far East Shipping Company and was originally named "Konstantin Simonov".
