The fifth president of Georgia, Salome Zurabishvili, reacted to the arrest of the president of Venezuela, Nicolas Maduro, and the events taking place in Venezuela. He posted on his Facebook page, mentioning Maduro alongside other dictators and writing that nothing is permanent.
"Nero, Caligula, Domitian, Tamerlane, Stalin, Hitler, Mussolini, Ceausescu, Pol Pot, Gaddafi, Saddam Hussein, Bashar al-Hassadi, Maduro... nothing is permanent, and no matter how strong the dictator and how ruthless his rule, the end is inevitable. And their end is almost always the hardest," wrote Salome Zurabishvili.
Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores were arrested in Caracas on Saturday, January 3, as part of a US military operation. They are currently in New York pretrial detention.
US President Donald Trump announced at a press conference on January 3 that the US will lead Venezuela until a "safe, orderly and reasonable" transfer of power is possible.
The Foreign Ministry of Georgia expressed hope that the new Venezuelan government will revise its position on Abkhazia and South Ossetia.
