In his New Year's address, Russian President Vladimir Putin called the New Year a special and magical holiday.

The head of the state congratulated the Russians on the occasion of the coming year 2026. He addressed the citizens from the Kremlin, the people of Kamchatka and Chukotka heard the message first.

"The New Year is, first of all, a belief in the best, goodness and success, a unique and magical holiday when hearts open to love, friendship and compassion, tenderness and generosity. We strive to bring joy and warmth to those who need compassion and care," Putin said.

The head of state also noted that tonight Russians strive to support the participants of the special military operation who are fighting "for their native land, truth and justice" in word and deed.

"Happy New Year, dear friends. Happy new year, 2026," Putin said. This year, Putin's speech lasted 3 minutes 20 seconds, while last year it was 3 minutes 35 seconds. His shortest New Year's message was in 2006, just over two minutes. Meanwhile, his longest New Year's message was in 2022, which lasted about nine minutes.
