The Algerian parliament recognized French colonialism as a crime

The National People's Assembly (Parliament) of Algeria has approved a bill by which France's colonization of the territory of Algeria lasting more than a century is recognized as a state crime, "Ennahar" newspaper reports.

Members of the Algerian parliament voted unanimously in favor of the proposed bill. The document holds France "legally responsible for its colonial past in Algeria and the tragedies it has inflicted on the Algerian people."

The bill approved by the National People's Assembly describes French colonization as a "state crime" and also demands an "official apology" from Paris.

The crimes of the French colonialists include, in particular, extrajudicial executions, torture and rape, as well as nuclear tests carried out in Algeria and the plundering of the country's natural resources.
